This is a selection of my bird paintings from 2020 - 2024. They range in their stylistic approaches. A few of the works incorporate pieces of my old woodcut prints from college. It was exciting to experiment with surface and repurpose these images. I like the element of time and history it adds to the work.

I spent the week field sketching and exploring their nature preserve sighting and marveling in the early summer activities. Most notably the songs birds singing for summer love.

Jungle Boogie is a collection of gorilla imagery from 2022 to present. The Gorilla share 98% of our DNA- these works explore self portraits as well as begin to reimagine our music culture. Gorillas are gentle giants and i’ve always enjoyed pairing toughness with the gentle and silly. The imagery started involving into portraits of musicians . I was wondering if zoo animals are ever exposed to music from their handlers and was tickled at the idea of animals dreaming about themselves as musicians.

It was very liberating and exciting to work spontaneously with silhouettes and line work to explore color and layering.

This Series of paintings was developed from sketchbook drawings exploring cubist style approaches of white ink on black paper. My friend gave me the black paper sketchbook for Christmas in 2019 and I thought, “what am I going to do with this?”. It’s exciting to see the progression of the drawings into paintings.
These images depict these big cats as lone figures stalking their territory. Like Henri Rousseau i’ve never been to jungle spaces and want these landscapes to have a “fantastic'“ and mysterious quality. These work explore the jungle as an unknown and wild space.
